What position is intended for Artak Davtyan? Controversies in the Ministry of Defense
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that the Ministry of Defense of Armenia is still undecided on what position to appoint former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Artak Davtyan, who was dismissed on June 8, just a day after his son’s wedding.
We previously wrote that discussions are ongoing about appointing him as the head of the Ministry of Defense's Military Supervision Service, replacing Movses Hakobyan. However, we have learned that the discussions have not been well-received in the Ministry of Defense.
According to our sources, many believe that bringing Davtyan in as Hakobyan's replacement could create new problems, and it would be better to think of a new position for him. As a result of the discussions, it has been decided that it would be preferable for Artak Davtyan to be appointed to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
It is noteworthy that on March 22, 2018, Serzh Sargsyan appointed Haykaz Baghumyan as the Deputy Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, signing a new contract for military service for a period of three years. This implies that Baghumyan's contract will expire in 2021, and perhaps the Ministry of Defense does not wish to wait until the contract's expiration.
Incidentally, according to rumors circulating in the ministry, the Prime Minister's advisor, Arshak Karapetyan, who is a close friend of Artak Davtyan, is actively involved in the matter of appointing him to any position.
