Amendments to the Constitution of Armenia Published, Effective Tomorrow
The official publication has released the amendments to the Constitution of Armenia. According to this:
Article 1. The amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, adopted on December 6, 2015, to the Constitution of July 5, 1995, are as follows:
“Article 213. The Term of Office of Members (Judges) of the Constitutional Court and the President
1. Until the entry into force of Chapter 7 of the Constitution, the term of office of a member of the Constitutional Court (judge) appointed before that time, who has served in the position of a member or judge of the Constitutional Court for a total of no less than 12 years, is considered completed, and their tenure ends.
2. A member of the Constitutional Court appointed before the entry into force of Chapter 7 of the Constitution, whose term of office does not terminate under the first part of this article, continues to serve as a judge of the Constitutional Court until the completion of 12 years in that position, taking into account the period served before the entry into force of Chapter 7 of the Constitution, as well as the period served after the entry into force of Chapter 7 of the Constitution.
3. After the entry into force of Chapter 7 of the Constitution, nominations for vacant positions of judges of the Constitutional Court shall be made successively by the Government, the President of the Republic, and the General Assembly of Judges. Nominations for vacant judgeships arising from the first part of this article shall be made within two months after the vacancy occurs.
4. The tenure of the President of the Constitutional Court ends. After the position of the President of the Constitutional Court becomes vacant, the President of the Constitutional Court is elected in accordance with Article 166 of the Constitution, which is carried out after the fulfillment of the vacancies arising under the first part of this article by the judges of the Constitutional Court.
Article 2. These amendments to the Constitution shall enter into force on the day following their official publication.
