Visible Decrease in Mask Prices Recorded, Says Head of Anti-Monopoly State Commission

The head of the Republic of Armenia’s Anti-Monopoly State Commission, Gegham Gevorgyan, distributed medical protective masks to passersby at the 'Victory' Park in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district after the end of the workday yesterday.

Gevorgyan expressed gratitude to the citizens for adhering to the anti-epidemic rules set by the commandant's office.

"This event is yet another step toward raising social responsibility among citizens and another opportunity to show care for one another. At this stage, it is essential for each one of us to realize that a lot depends on us, and we can make significant progress in curbing the pandemic by following simple rules, particularly wearing masks, to prevent the spread of the disease and endanger our lives and the lives of our loved ones, neighbors, and colleagues," said Gevorgyan.

According to the Anti-Monopoly Commission chairman, a visible decrease in mask prices has been noted in the market. The wholesale price of locally produced masks is 60 drams, while retail prices range from 70 to 110 drams. Prices for imported masks are also declining, and this trend is expected to continue, which will help make the mandatory requirement for mask-wearing less of a social burden on citizens.

He reminded that thanks to the commission's initiative and the cooperation of local companies, citizens can also obtain protective masks at an affordable price in public places, particularly through vending machines located at metro stations. Gevorgyan stated that soon the price will be set at 150 drams for a pack of two masks.

Armen Makhakyan, secretary of the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district, noted that more than 90 percent of residents are already complying with the mask-wearing requirement. The municipality, in turn, continues its awareness-raising efforts.
