Lusavor Armenia to Appeal to the Constitutional Court, but Only After Decision on Kocharyan's Case
The National Assembly accepted constitutional amendments within hours and, violating the Constitution, did not send it to the Constitutional Court for an opinion. Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the Lusavor Armenia faction, mentioned this in a conversation with reporters today, June 24.
Edmond Marukyan spoke about the assertion that all this is related to the examination of Robert Kocharyan’s case in the Constitutional Court, which is scheduled for July 7. He stated, “In order not to interfere in this process in any way, so that it is not perceived that we are also trying to intervene in this process… the Constitution provides a three-month period for disputes, while there is no deadline for issues related to the law. Now we will work on the application, strengthen it until that moment, and as soon as that session on the case takes place and concludes, our application to declare it unconstitutional will be submitted to the Constitutional Court. It is a matter of days.”
He added, “The LHK will maintain the process only within the legal framework, and we will not allow one of the parties to use this process to their advantage. Moreover, we are essentially coming from a principle of protection.”
