Gagik Tsarukyan's Lawyers to Submit Appeal Tomorrow
The lawyers of Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), will submit an appeal tomorrow. This was stated in an interview with NEWS.am by lawyer Emin Khachatryan.
He noted that the minimum threshold for reasonable suspicion has not been met. “There are certain judgments regarding reasonable suspicion that are unacceptable. Of course, we are glad that the court rose above political persecution and did not decide to imprison Gagik Tsarukyan. Nevertheless, we believe that the minimum threshold for reasonable suspicion has not been met. No evidence has been presented in court that demonstrates our client’s involvement in this criminal case,” he explained.
It should be recalled that on June 21, first-instance judge Robert Papoyan rejected the request to imprison Gagik Tsarukyan.
Gagik Tsarukyan has been accused under Article 154.2 of the Criminal Code (receiving bribes from candidates, parties, or referendum campaign initiatives, or giving bribes to voters by candidates, parties, or referendum campaign initiatives, or obstructing the realization of the voter’s free will), a charge he does not accept, describing it as illegal.
