Javakhk Applicants Deprived of Opportunity to Enroll in Armenia
Javakhk applicants who wish to pursue higher education in Armenia are unable to participate in national unified exams due to closed borders, reports Jnews.ge.
Several dozen applicants have written a collective letter to the relevant authorities in Armenia, requesting the opportunity to participate in the exams. The issue is that the state borders, including the Armenian-Georgian border, have been closed for several months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As a result, foreign applicants have not been able to partake in the national unified exams in Armenia. In their collective letter, the Javakhk applicants specifically state:
“We, the Armenian applicants, cannot cross the Armenian-Georgian border and participate in the unified national exams in the examination centers located in Armenia. We ask for your support and for a testing commission and test center to be established in Georgia. We are Armenian, citizens of Georgia, and we wish to receive higher education in the universities of the Republic of Armenia.”
The Georgian citizen Armenian applicants are appealing to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Minister of Education Arayik Harutyunyan, Acting Director of the Assessment and Testing Center A. Pashayan, the Ambassador of Armenia to Georgia Ruben Sadoyan, and the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan.
The letter has been signed by several dozen applicants. They hope that the Armenian authorities will understand their request. It should be noted that every year, about 250-300 applicants from Javakhk enroll in various higher educational institutions in Armenia.
