Wearing Masks Is Now Impossible: MP Calls for Logic in Regulations

“Enforce mask-wearing strictly in closed areas where social distancing cannot be maintained, particularly where services are being provided, or when one person is obliged to interact with another due to work requirements,” wrote Anna Kostanyan, a member of the National Assembly, in a post on her Facebook page, addressing the logic behind the obligation to wear masks everywhere.

Kostanyan’s full post is as follows:

“It is now impossible to comply.

Dear authorities, I propose urgently halting this farce and making decisions strictly within the boundaries of logic.

If I am walking alone on the street in this heat, distanced from everyone, why should I be required to wear a mask? If you can logically explain the necessity of this, I will apologize.

Enforce mask-wearing strictly in closed areas where social distancing cannot be maintained, particularly where services are being provided or when one person is necessarily obliged to engage in any activity with another person. Otherwise, do you expect fines for all patients in medical institutions who have found themselves, due to circumstances, on an operating table, at a dentist’s chair, etc.?

What is the logic behind requiring mandatory mask-wearing when people at the same table in outdoor and indoor cafes, restaurants, and similar facilities cannot wear masks while engaged in gastronomic activities? Does coronavirus ask questions or look at who is eating, getting dental work done, or undergoing surgery (I am referring to urgent surgical interventions)? It does not say, ‘Wait a minute, don't touch this one.’

Or what does it mean to approach a person wearing a mask in the street and demand personal identification? What is the sense... ? The mask may be obligatory (if it indeed serves a preventative purpose, I cannot confirm or deny this) exclusively in closed areas: in taxis, public transport, and other institutions, but not while walking alone outdoors. This is absurd.”
