Venice Commission Approves Opinion on Issues Raised by Minister Badassian
The Venice Commission on June 19 approved its opinion regarding the questions raised by Armenia's Minister of Justice Rustam Badassian. This was reported to Armenpress by the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.
The commission emphasized that the aim of the current authorities is not to change the model of the Constitutional Court in accordance with democratic standards nor to retreat from that model. Furthermore, there is no intention to establish rules that would allow the political majority to control the process of appointing judges. On the contrary, it is clear that the government's goal is to ensure that the new provisions are implemented and that the composition of the Constitutional Court as soon as possible reflects the democratic standards introduced by those provisions. This is a legitimate goal,” stated the Ministry.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the Venice Commission is set to officially publish its opinion on June 22, Monday.
