Hayk Sargsyan, Nephew of Serzh Sargsyan, Arrives at Court for Trial Proceedings
Hayk Sargsyan, the nephew of former Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, arrived at the Shengavit District Court in Yerevan a short while ago. It is noted that a court session regarding Hayk Sargsyan's case is set to take place soon.
Hayk Sargsyan is accused of a crime committed 11 years ago, specifically attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons. He has been charged under Article 34-104, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code (attempted murder), and Article 235, Part 1 (illegal acquisition and possession of weapons and ammunition).
According to the indictment, on April 1, 2007, at around 16:00, in the basement of his residence located at 11 Tumanyan Street, Yerevan, Hayk Sargsyan unlawfully fired a SIGSAUER pistol at Davit Simonian's abdomen with the intent to unlawfully take his life; however, the crime was not completed due to circumstances beyond his control.
It is recalled that on September 10, 2018, Yerevan’s general jurisdiction court judge Anna Danibekyan granted a motion from Hayk Sargsyan's defense and ruled that bail for Sargsyan was permitted. After paying a bail of 50 million dram, Sargsyan was released from the Nubarashen Penitentiary.
