Hidden Symptoms of Coronavirus: Professor Ancha Baranova
Professor Ancha Baranova, a doctor of biological sciences at George Mason University (USA), stated to RIA Novosti that coronavirus carriers, often referred to as asymptomatic, may not notice a reduction in lung volume and a deterioration in kidney function. “Asymptomatic individuals are mainly young people, and they do not come to the attention of doctors. They may visit a doctor for another reason. For example, they might need to check their pancreas, and a computed tomography (CT) scan is performed, but it turns out that the person's lungs are affected. All this can also be determined without tomography if lung sizes are checked with a stereometer. If it has started to shrink, then it is possible that it is related to coronavirus,” Baranova said.
According to her, the stereometer would have been useful if everyone had undergone such measurements before the pandemic, allowing for the comparison of lung volume. “If your COVID-19 test is positive but you have no symptoms, you should undergo tomography and see the condition of your lungs,” the biologist advised.
