Red Cross Office in Contact with Authorities Regarding Azerbaijani Man Crossing Armenian Border
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Yerevan is in contact with representatives of the authorities concerning the Azerbaijani man who crossed into Armenia.
Zara Amatuni, head of communication and prevention programs at the ICRC Yerevan office, stated in an interview with Armenpress: "We are in touch with the representatives of the relevant authorities regarding this issue. As you know, it is within the ICRC's mandate as a neutral intermediary to visit persons detained in connection with the conflict, to monitor their treatment, the conditions of their detention, and to enable them to establish contact with their families."
The National Security Service of Armenia reported that at around 10:00 AM on June 12, a 26-year-old Azerbaijani national was detained on suspicion of illegally crossing the Armenian state border, in the northeastern direction of the line of contact between the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces. He was carrying a single bag with personal belongings.
Currently, efforts are underway to clarify all circumstances surrounding the illegal border crossing. Sos Hovhannisyan, the administrative head of the Aragyugh village in the Gegharkunik region, reported that a resident of Azerbaijan's Getabek region, Elshan Rasul Oghlu Aliyev, born in 1994, was discovered in the village of Aragyugh on the morning of June 12. The first to notice the Azerbaijani national was one of the villagers, who serves as the guard of the summer camp in Aragyugh.
