Lawsuit Filed Against Turkish Singer Who Called Kim Kardashian a 'Detestable Armenian'
Recently, Turkish singer Murad Ovyuch gained notoriety on social media for calling Kim Kardashian a 'detestable Armenian' in response to her posts about the Armenian Genocide. According to Ermenihaber, he made these remarks in an Instagram story.
As a reminder, on the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Kardashian stated on her Twitter page, "Today marks the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and I am proud that the U.S. has recognized it." Concurrently, she shared a series of images related to the genocide on her Instagram stories.
Simon Chekhem, the head of the Beyoğlu District Council and an Istanbul-based Armenian lawyer, has filed a complaint with the Istanbul prosecutor's office against Ovyuch for insulting Armenians in his statements directed toward Kardashian. Following Chekhem's complaint, the prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation.
In a confession, Ovyuch denied any wrongdoing, claiming that his comments were a response to Kardashian. He stated that his words were directed at an American citizen named Kim Kardashian and "the Armenian enemies of the Ottomans." He elaborated, "I responded this way because she belittled our values." Ovyuch insisted that his statements did not relate to Armenian citizens of the Republic of Turkey and added that he has been providing assistance to Armenian citizens and organizations in his country for the past 5-6 years.
He has been charged with inciting discrimination, sowing discord among the public, insult, and making threats.
It is worth mentioning that Ovyuch previously wrote on social media, "You Armenians are detestable. Who are you to call my Ottoman ancestors barbarians?"
