Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian Steps Down as CEO, Advocates for Black Leadership

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has stepped down from the company's board and has called for his replacement to be a Black candidate. “I say this as a father who wants to be able to answer his Black daughter when she asks, ‘What did you do?’” Ohanian stated.

Ohanian, who is married to Black tennis star Serena Williams, also mentioned that a portion of his future earnings from Reddit would be dedicated to the Black community and efforts to combat racial hatred. As a starting point, he donated $1 million to former NFL player and activist Colin Kaepernick's “Know Your Rights” campaign.

“I believe that resigning can be an act of leadership from those in power. I urge everyone fighting to restore our broken nation to not stand down,” Ohanian expressed on his Twitter account.

The 34-year-old Ohanian added that his decision reflects confidence in Reddit's future and a desire to direct his professional energy towards advanced technology sectors, specifically blockchain. He will be joining Initialized Capital as a venture partner.

Ohanian’s net worth is estimated at $9 million.
