One Arrested in Case of 21-Year-Old Who Was Killed in Vahramaberd on May 27

In the Marmashen community of Shirak Province, there is now one person in custody in connection with the case of 21-year-old Zarsand Manukyan, who was killed on May 27 in Vahramaberd. In an interview with NEWS.am, the victim's sister, Hegine Manukyan, a journalist for the Gyumri 'Tsayg' regional television station, who is also recognized as a legal successor, stated that she is currently cooperating with law enforcement to fully uncover the details of the case.

According to Hegine Manukyan, her brother had gone out for a walk with her other sister's son around 7:00 to 7:30 PM. After bringing the child home, he mentioned that he needed to go out but would return soon. An hour later, news came that Zarsand was at the 'Gyumri' Medical Center, where they learned about his death.

“At that moment, we didn’t know what had happened. The head of the Marmashen community, Karen Arshakyan, had previously stated on various news websites that it was merely an accident and that he had suddenly died during a game. However, this information was presented differently by various outlets. The boys had played football between 4 and 5 PM, and Zarsand went out after 7 PM, meaning it was impossible for my brother to have played football during that time and then such an incident occurred. Karen Arshakyan has provided incorrect information, and we will get to a point where he will have to both retract his statements and apologize to our family,” said Hegine Manukyan.

According to H. Manukyan, her brother had been called out via SMS. “My brother went to Marmashen with three friends, one of whom is a minor. They saw that his close friend Gevorg, who is also his classmate, was talking to someone named Noroy. They then started hitting each other. When Gevorg got hit in the eye, Zarsand helped his friend, stood him up, and gave him water. At that moment, Zarsand was struck, and the assaulter called him over to talk privately. After separating, for some reason, the boys from Vahramaberd did not see what kind of argument Zarsand and that guy had, nor who hit whom or how it happened,” Hegine Manukyan recounted.
