If Only We Could Fight the Pandemic with the Same Zeal with Which We Devour Each Other: Tevan Poghosyan

Tevan Poghosyan, head of the International Center for Human Development, wrote on his Facebook page:

“These are days of tearing each other apart. If only we could fight the pandemic with the same professionalism and zeal with which we devour one another, how much better it would be. The ancestors who entrusted us with a small piece of homeland are now turning in their graves. What a perfect job we are doing to destroy ourselves.

Have we learned to live together? No, we haven’t heard that. I mock, I curse, I grab, I lay asphalt, I lock up, I place the porthole correctly, I flutter ‘with Abarnotska’. We are mixed, a mess.

In this chaos, let me urge, dear ones, let us learn to live together. Or we will be forced to live elsewhere. Let’s stop drawing new dividing lines every day. In a turbulent sea, the fate of the ship depends on each person aboard.

Let’s forget personal agendas. Let’s be guided solely by the national, Armenian agenda. Let us choose every word we speak so that they may be unifying words. Let us cherish one another. Let us live with care for each other.

What compels us to embrace a vocabulary of endings—grave, coffin, dead, kill, disappear, cease to be...? Generations should be raised with a vocabulary of the future—love, unite, be born, develop, assist, support, respect...

Let’s try once more; surely, nothing will be lacking in our lives, only it will increase, it will add up.

However, our number one security issue today is demographics. We need many more Armenians—to defend Armenia, our century-old dreams must be realized with these 3 million. Therefore, we have no choice, we must multiply.”
