Instead of a State Registration Number, Names May Be Used: Alen Simonian's Legislative Initiative
The Vice President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, proposes to allow vehicle owners the option to select highly demanded state registration numbers according to their preference. This is reported by Hetq.am.
According to the current law, the accepted format for a state registration number is 2 digits, 2 letters, and 3 digits. Should Alen Simonian's proposal be implemented, this format could be altered. For instance, Georgian state registration numbers can even include the names of individuals or organizations. After the adoption of this project, it is possible that a similar situation will arise for Armenian registration numbers as well.
Simonian suggests amending Article 9 of the Law on Ensuring Road Traffic Safety, which would allow vehicle owners the opportunity to propose preferred combinations of allowed letters, or digits, or their permitted combinations in any random order for registration numbers.
The justification for the proposal states that it is a common practice in many countries for vehicle owners to be able to choose their own license plate numbers composed of specific characters.
