Citizens in Lars Refuse to Return to Armenia on Sochi-Yerevan Flight
It has been reported that the customs trailer is maintaining constant contact with Armenian citizens currently at the Upper Lars checkpoint. The citizens of Armenia expressed their desire to return to Armenia in their own vehicles. This was stated to NEWS.am by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anna Naghdalyan.
“We reiterate that due to the spread of the new type of coronavirus, the Georgian authorities have declared a state of emergency in the country, and the Russian-Georgian border remains closed to foreign citizens. In light of this, the Armenian Consulate General in Rostov proposed to organize the return of Armenian citizens via the Sochi-Yerevan flight that took place yesterday, as well as on upcoming flights, while also addressing the transportation costs for women and children, as well as parking issues for the vehicles belonging to Armenian citizens in designated areas. However, the Armenian citizens at the checkpoint have refused this proposed solution, insisting that their return to Armenia should be organized solely in their personal vehicles. I should note that the upcoming flight is already fully booked.
Let us emphasize that Armenian citizens can only return from Russia to Armenia by land in their personal vehicles after the Georgian government revokes its decision restricting entry for foreigners,” she added.
