Ministry of Education Approves Regulations for Completion and Transfer for the 2019-2020 Academic Year
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, Arayik Harutyunyan, has approved regulations governing the transfer and completion processes for students in general education schools during the 2019-2020 academic year.
The minister's decree outlines the specifics of the educational program implementation, final assessments, transfers, and graduation processes for students in educational institutions running general education programs.
Accordingly:
- A student in the 1st grade moves to the next grade through a characterization process.
- Students in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th-8th, and 10th-11th grades who receive a grade between 4-10 in all subjects are promoted to the next grade.
- For students requiring special educational conditions due to intellectual disabilities, transfer to the next grade is based on assessments conducted according to an individual education plan.
- Students in the 12th grade who achieve grades between 4-10 in all subjects annually and between 8-20 in national final examinations receive a high school diploma.
- Students requiring special educational conditions due to intellectual disabilities are issued a state-certified completion document without examination grades.
Annual grades in subjects are assigned by the teachers considering the student's performance in the first semester and grades obtained between January 8 and March 13 in the second semester. If a student does not have a grade in the second semester or has a lower grade, they may opt for the first semester's result to be considered as their annual grade.
Knowledge assessment is not conducted in the 4th grade, and final examinations are not held in the 9th grade. Examination grades are assigned based on the student's annual grade in that subject.
State final examinations in the 12th grade will not take place in June; examination grades will be assigned based on the results of tests taken in December 2019 or on averaged annual grades. The recording of student absences is conducted until March 13, 2020. In the first semester, students in the 2nd-12th grades with 120-200 hours of absence will have semester grades assigned based on current grades. In the absence of current grades, the grades obtained through remote thematic assessments will serve as the basis for the semester summary.
If a student has more than 200 hours of absence during the academic year, they will not be promoted to the next grade.
Candidates for medals will take an examination in one subject, mathematics, on June 25. If the student has chosen
