Citizens Stranded in Lars Report Despair: 'We Have Been Completely Forgotten'
A distress call has been received from Armenian citizens stranded in Upper Lars for several days, who continue to remain in their vehicles. Neither the Armenian authorities nor the Armenian embassies in Georgia and Russia are taking action to facilitate their return home. This was reported by Shamshyan.com.
In a conversation with the source, a citizen stated: “Georgia has opened one border, but this Georgian-Russian border is not opening. It's a desperate situation; we have been completely forgotten. There are 42 of us at this point, including women and children. There are no spare tires left on the streets to burn for warmth; we were using that to keep warm.”
The Russian police approached them and said that their consulate was not doing anything, suggesting they should try to take some action. The following day, they returned and said that the Georgians told them, 'Why are you interfering? If their Armenians and their authorities are not getting involved...' The Georgian side informed the Russians that it’s better for Armenia to handle it from their end, providing vehicles to escort them home, especially since the Sadakhlo crossing point is open.
The Georgian authorities indicated that they may allow them to leave but stressed that Armenia must accept them back.”
According to the citizen, young employees from an insurance company near them, named Lilit and Gohar, have been providing them with food and water, while the entire government has not taken any action for their assistance during this time.
