Three Elderly Residents in Critical Condition at Norq Elderly Care Home
Amidst a new and dangerous COVID-19 outbreak in Armenia, elderly residents and staff at the "Norq" elderly care home in Yerevan have tested positive for the virus. A total of 70 individuals were tested, revealing 45 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
Among those infected, 28 are staff members who have been isolated in hotels due to the absence of symptoms. Seventeen of the infected individuals are elderly residents, three of whom are currently isolated within the institution. The remaining 14 have been hospitalized at various medical facilities, with the condition of three being extremely critical.
Sona Martirosyan, the head of the public relations department at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, informed Armtimes.com that the transfer of infected individuals to medical institutions is being conducted in an orderly manner. Five citizens are currently at the "St. Grigor Lusavorich" Medical Center, while others in good health remain isolated within the care home.
There are residents in the care home who are bedridden, meaning they are mostly confined to bed, and their health condition, regardless of the presence of the virus, is already serious. The question of how the virus infiltrated the institution remains a mystery, according to Martirosyan, as it has been closed since February 27 without any access or exit, not even for management and staff who have been sleeping on-site.
Considering the fact that the elderly home is located just 20 meters from the "Norq" infectious diseases hospital, they had remained especially cautious, not even exiting through the gates. During this period, there was only one exception where an elderly woman in the bedridden section was transferred to "Erebuni" Medical Center due to a decline in her health. After her discharge, she was immediately tested, and the result was negative.
Currently, there are suspicions that the virus may have been present in the body silently. It remains uncertain whether the institution will close for a period and undergo disinfection measures.
