New Protests Against Coronavirus Restrictions Held Today in Germany
Protests against restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic are being held today in Germany. Demonstrations have been announced in Berlin, Munich (Bavaria), Dortmund (North Rhine-Westphalia), Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg), and several other cities across the country.
As noted by Süddeutsche Zeitung, the protests are gaining momentum in light of the authorities' gradual easing of restrictions and the implementation of a second phase of mitigation measures. The Berlin police have authorized around 20 demonstrations. In compliance with epidemiological requirements, each protest has been designated a specific location, and the number of participants must not exceed 50.
Announced locations include Rosa Luxemburg Square in Mitte, Republic Square in front of the Reichstag building, which houses the Bundestag's plenary session hall, as well as Alexanderplatz, according to DW. As demonstrated by last week's rallies, authorities' guidelines are often ignored, social distancing is not maintained, and many people are without masks.
