«Hraparak». Authorities May Be Forced to Extend State of Emergency Up to One Year
«Hraparak» newspaper reports: “The authorities are struggling to make a decision regarding the future of the referendum. Extending the state of emergency is not a solution to the issue. There is no legislative path forward, and no matter how much Vahe Grigoryan, Tigran Egoryan, and Arman Babajanyan's trio attempts to resolve the issue in the National Assembly, any discussion of the matter through parliament is unconstitutional and contrary to convention.
In the past, there were discussions about the vetting of judges and carrying out transitional justice, but these were all artificial agendas that were obviously impossible to implement. The only sensible outcome is for the National Assembly to make a decision to annul the referendum.
But do they have the right to make such a decision? “Well, if the National Assembly has the right to appoint a referendum, then they also have the right to annul it and nullify their own decision.”
By the way, can they exert pressure on the Constitutional Court judges again, perhaps to force resignations from one or two judges, even going so far as to apply repressive measures against their families, after which the issue could be mechanically resolved? “Do you think anyone among the judges or their families has been spared from such pressures so far? What they could do, they have done. Both against families and children, although the imagination of this government in creating trouble is limitless.”
So what will happen? “They will be forced to extend the state of emergency, perhaps up to a year.” Regardless, it will end, right? “Well, by then either the donkey will die, or the bug will.”
