Nikol Pashinyan Had a Phone Conversation with the Pope of Rome
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a phone conversation today with His Holiness Pope Francis.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Holy See and personally of Pope Francis in mitigating the socio-economic consequences of the coronavirus and providing assistance to vulnerable groups. He also presented the steps taken by the Armenian government in the fight against the pandemic.
Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the world today, halting armament, and promoting the culture of peace among peoples. In this context, Prime Minister Pashinyan highlighted the significance of Pope Francis' call for a universal ceasefire made last month, reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, and expressed gratitude to His Holiness for always standing by the Armenian people and historical justice.
His Holiness congratulated Nikol Pashinyan on the second anniversary of his election as Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. He expressed great satisfaction with the fraternal relations and unbreakable ties between the Roman Catholic and Armenian Apostolic Churches.
The Holy Father reaffirmed his position on the issue of the Armenian Genocide. The interlocutors highly appreciated the role of the Armenian Catholic community in the life of the Armenian people. Both parties indicated their willingness to expand bilateral interstate relations.
