We Are Turning a Very Important Page: Lena Nazaryan
We are turning a very important page. Yesterday and today, the government is presenting the results of last year’s work in the National Assembly. This was stated by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Lena Nazaryan on her Facebook page.
She emphasized: “From the entire report, I want to specially highlight the following: during 2019, tremendous work has been done to provide housing for 297 families who were forcibly displaced from Azerbaijan and have been homeless for nearly 30 years. Due to last year's budget (1.5 billion AMD), 112 families are already receiving housing certificates in the current year, and for the housing needs of another 185 families, a budget of 2.1 billion AMD is allocated this year.
- To address the housing issues of the 453 families left homeless due to the earthquake, the government allocated 1.3 billion AMD in 2019. Furthermore, at today’s government meeting, it allocated an additional 3 billion AMD as specified in the 2020 budget, thus completely fulfilling the state’s obligation to those families.
- The process of issuing housing purchase certificates for around 300 graduates of orphanages has also begun, for which the government allocated 1.9 billion AMD last year. Already, 133 individuals have received certificates for housing purchases, a promise made to them as far back as 2003.
All of the homelessness I have mentioned for these public groups is a sign of decades of exploitation and entrenched injustice in our country.”
