Double COVID-19 Infection Cases Registered in Armenia
Double COVID-19 infection cases have been registered in Armenia, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
Currently, discussions are taking place at international academic levels regarding whether these are cases of reinfection, meaning the individual has been infected again, or merely the reactivation of previously dormant virus particles. As of today, there is no definitive and unequivocal answer to this question, as the virus has not been found in a dormant state. However, the scientific community is inclined to believe that there may be inactive viral particles present in the tissues, where the virus is not replicating, but RNA is present in the cells, which is detected through testing.
Nevertheless, there are currently three such cases in Armenia. The patients do not exhibit any complaints or symptoms. The virus was detected in them again two weeks after their discharge from the hospital. They have been isolated to prevent potential transmission.
It is noteworthy that South Korean scientists have concluded that such cases are not due to reinfection but rather to the preservation of virus particles in the tissues of the oral cavity and throat, which can be detected through PCR testing. There is still no final and exact answer to this issue. Therefore, it is important to continue adhering to safety protocols.
