Tragic Incident at Vedi Maternity Hospital: Young Couple Claims Loss of Firstborn Due to Doctor's Negligence

Today, on May 4, residents of Sisavan village in the Ararat region, 30-year-old Hovhannes Melikyan and 25-year-old Ruzanna Meloyan, reached out to Shamshyan.com to express their outrage and demands to Health Minister Arsen Torosyan. According to the citizens, Minister Torosyan must take action and hold Vedi maternity hospital gynecologist Harutyun Badalyan accountable.

“My wife had no health issues throughout the 9 months. She regularly attended consultations. The doctors assured us that we would have our firstborn without any problems, but who knew that due to the negligence and unprofessional approach of gynecologist H. Badalyan, we would lose our firstborn? On April 19, we brought my wife to the Vedi maternity hospital, expecting to leave with joy a few days later; however, not only were we met with disdain, but they even refused to answer our questions. Later that night, our child was clandestinely transferred to Muratsan maternity hospital in a critical state, where we were satisfied with the doctors, as they did everything possible to save our child's life, but they were powerless. We hold Vedi maternity hospital gynecologist H. Badalyan responsible for our firstborn’s death. From the information we received, similar situations have occurred here multiple times, and because of this maternity hospital, numerous mothers have left with tears in their eyes. We are not saying that there are no good doctors or quality healthcare. There are, and that is why we demand that the Health Minister take action, either to close this maternity hospital or to employ knowledgeable and caring doctors,” said the husband of the mother.

The mother also stated, “For days I have wanted to know the cause of my child's death, but no one is answering my questions. I even asked the doctor to perform a cesarean section because I could not bear the pain, but the doctor ignored my request, which contributed to my son's death. I was thrilled to learn that my firstborn was a boy. I proudly said that my son would bolster the Armenian army, but who knew that would not come true because of the doctors’ negligence. They have become so brazen that my sister told me, ‘Don’t worry, my firstborn also died.’ My family and I demand that the doctors here be held accountable.”

The citizens also stated they plan to approach the police to punish those responsible. “We know we cannot bring our child back, but let the guilty be punished so that no parent experiences the pain and sorrow we are going through. They are so confident that in our grief, they said, ‘It's okay, when a second child is born, we won’t leave the mother’s side and will be more attentive.’ We want Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Health Minister Arsen Torosyan to definitely hear these words,” they added.
