51 Cases of Smuggling and Customs Violations Identified in the First Quarter of 2020: SRC

The State Revenue Committee's Anti-Smuggling Department reported that during the first quarter of 2020, 51 cases of smuggling and violations of customs regulations were registered. This was announced by the SRC.

Specifically, the department's employees prevented 34 cases of the smuggling of narcotics and psychotropic substances imported and exported through postal routes and accompanying baggage from various countries. As a result, approximately 5.5 kg of methamphetamine, 2.5 kg of opium, over 2.6 kg of ketamine, 600 grams of marijuana, 11 grams of spice, and 11 electrical cigarette capsules filled with hash oil were discovered, along with 2,487 tablets containing various drugs and psychotropic substances.

Moreover, thanks to the diligent work of the department's employees, 17 cases of customs regulation violations were revealed. Items hidden from customs control included 300 grams of gold and 14 kg of metal jewelry, 60 kg of various medications, 71 mobile phones, 450 cartons of cigarettes, 20,240 kg of apples, over 2.6 kg of rubber tubing, 1 case of handing over a vehicle without customs authority permission, and 1,500 kg of clothing and textile products along with other goods.

Materials on the facts have been provided to the investigative, inquiry, operational-investigation, and legal departments of the State Revenue Committee under the provisions of Article 267.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia and the relevant articles of the Customs Code.
