320 Healthcare Workers Among 2386 COVID-19 Cases in Armenia, Says Arsen Torosyan
Among the 2386 cases of COVID-19 in Armenia, 320, or approximately 13.4%, have been recorded among healthcare workers. This was reported by the Minister of Health on his Facebook page.
“This is certainly very unfortunate, yet it can be described as an inevitable phenomenon. You can probably imagine how difficult it is for the healthcare system when it needs to treat or isolate someone who is supposed to care for patients with COVID-19. Given the relatively long duration of the illness, healthcare workers are unable to work for extended periods,” he wrote.
“Fortunately, there have been no fatal cases among healthcare workers, thanks in part to the Ministry of Health's guidance for those over 60 years old and with chronic illnesses to stay home as much as possible. This again complicates the situation, as many healthcare workers are unable to assist their younger and healthier colleagues in fighting for patients' lives, increasing the burden and risk on those who are working.”
