According to the international statistical service Worldometer, there are currently over 2 million active cases worldwide. Among the patients receiving treatment, 51,355 are in severe condition.
The United States continues to lead in both the number of infected (1,131,452) and deaths (65,776).
In Spain, a total of 242,988 people have been infected, with 24,824 fatalities. In Italy, the virus has been diagnosed in 207,428 individuals, with 28,236 deaths.
The United Kingdom (177,454 infected, 27,510 deaths) and France (167,346 infected, 24,594 deaths) occupy the fourth and fifth positions on this grim leaderboard.
