Video: May 1st Has Been a Celebration for the Animals at Yerevan Zoo

Every year on May 1st, the Yerevan Zoo announces the official opening of the new season. Due to the state of emergency, this year the Yerevan Zoo remains closed.

Despite this, the day has been festive for the animals. Various games and activities have been organized for almost all the zoo's residents. The zoo staff has done everything possible to bring the warmth to the animals that they typically receive from visitors on this day.

For instance, apples have been hung on a rope for the gray bears, a vegetable cake has been prepared for the hippopotamus Typhoon, and a puzzle has been made for the elephant named Bunka (food inside a ball).

Interestingly, on March 15, the first cub of the year was born at the zoo, a Scottish pony. The staff has named the animal Avetis in hopes of good news.

Upcoming births are also expected among hooved animals, including deer, mouflons, and bezoar goats. Compared to last year, 2020 is expected to see a higher number of births due to the presence of primiparous animals in the zoo.

The Yerevan Zoo adheres to all safety regulations, and the staff pays close attention to the health of the animals in their care.

Following the declaration of a state of emergency in the country, the Yerevan Zoo launched the "Write to a Pet, Write to a Friend" project. The essence of the project is that children write letters to their favorite animals and receive a response. The best letters will receive surprises after the state of emergency ends. The letters are published on the zoo's Facebook page.

In the coming days, videos will also be posted on the Facebook page, presenting interesting information and facts about the zoo's animals, along with live broadcasts from the animal enclosures.
