Law Enforcement Officials Search Properties Belonging to Gagik Khachatryan

It has already been reported that last night dozens of representatives from law enforcement agencies besieged one of the apartments belonging to former State Revenue Committee president Gagik Khachatryan. This specifically refers to the apartment located in a building opposite the Youth Metro Station, which also houses an HSBC bank.

Yerevan Sarghsyan, a member of Khachatryan's legal team, stated in a conversation with ArmDaily.am that searches were taking place simultaneously at several addresses, looking for certain documents.

“The search warrant only mentioned the documents. Nothing was found, nothing was seized. If I’m not mistaken, there were some minor documents at a few addresses, but they are not significant. They may not even have been documents at all. I do not have the complete picture at this moment. It was merely evident that such searches, occurring a year and a few months after the initiation of the investigation, which typically happen at the beginning of the pre-trial investigation, pursued only one other goal: to exert pressure, which Gurgen Khachatryan mentioned in his statement,” said Sarghsyan.

Gurgen Khachatryan has been in the status of a defendant since January 21, with the preventive measure of signature not to leave assigned. Sarghsyan informed that two days ago, the charges were intensified, and a motion for detention was submitted to the court.

It should be noted that according to the new charge, Gurgen Khachatryan is accused of aiding in the receipt of a $22 million bribe. Gurgen Khachatryan's legal team stated that the amount mentioned in the accusation is a loan, the loan agreement is still in effect, and it is to be repaid by the end of the term.
