Person Sought Found in Hospital Room; Attack Launched on Patient, Says Head of Surgery Department in Gavar Medical Center
I was in the hospital, in my office, busy with my work, when the duty doctor at the reception called and informed me that we had admitted patients with gunshot wounds. This was stated by Aram Avetisyan, the head of the surgical department at the Gavar Medical Center, during a conversation with journalists.
“We went down, organized the first aid for the patients, examined them, and so on, while during that time, the relatives of one of the opposing sides breached the police barrier, entered the hospital, and began to smash doors and windows to seek revenge on the other side,” he said.
According to Avetisyan, the condition of all the injured has been assessed as serious, with numerous gunshot wounds and fractures: “Different fractures in different areas, various gunshot wounds. There were two fatalities, who were also transferred to the hospital, but biological death was recorded,” the doctor noted.
Avetisyan reported that police forces arrived immediately after the patients were admitted. He had difficulty stating how many police were present, “but there were many.” According to him, the individuals who stormed the hospital left afterwards “when they found the person they were looking for in one of the hospital rooms and attacked the patient there, after which they voluntarily left the hospital.”
“The injured here suffered from puncture and cut wounds in various parts of their bodies, as well as abrasions, bruises, and more,” Avetisyan said. “There was a death recorded for two individuals in the hospital – we have already had two deaths outside, not in the hospital. We had two deaths outside, they were brought to the hospital, already recorded, documented as clinical death by our specialists. As for the people who were attacked, there were no fatalities,” the doctor conveyed, adding that those individuals were transferred to Yerevan in extremely serious condition.
The caretaker accompanying the injured person in the hospital was also wounded, Avetisyan said. “First aid was provided by us, they were operated on here and then transferred to Yerevan. Their condition is serious, extremely serious,” noted the head of the surgical department.
There were no injuries among the hospital staff. Regarding the approximate number of individuals who stormed the hospital, Avetisyan said, “There were many. Approximately hundreds, several hundreds.”
