New Prison Facility to Be Built in Silikyan Community
The Yerevan City Council made a decision during its session today to donate a 15.0-hectare plot of land, with a cadastral value of 441 million drams, located at 86 12th Street in the Silikyan community of Yerevan, to the Republic of Armenia for the purpose of constructing a new prison facility.
The decision states: “Guided by Article 594 of the Civil Code, Article 89, parts 1 and 3 of the Land Code, and the Republic of Armenia Government's Decision No. 348-A dated March 19, 2020, the Yerevan City Council decides: 1. To donate the 15.0-hectare plot of land at 86 12th Street in Silikyan, belonging to the municipality of Yerevan and valued at 441,000,000 drams (four hundred forty-one million) to the Republic of Armenia.”
The proposed plot is intended for the construction of a new prison facility with a capacity of 1200 inmates, which will include 200 beds for individuals requiring medical treatment. It is expected to house the Ministry of Justice’s “Nubarashen” and “Prison Hospital” institutions, as both facilities have become unfit for further operation, and conditions are severely inadequate for individuals deprived of their liberty.
