Italy Announces Easing of Quarantine Measures

On April 26, Italy reported 260 new deaths due to the coronavirus, a number that is 155 lower than the previous day's count and the lowest figure since mid-March. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, in a message to the public, announced the easing of quarantine measures in the country and the start of the second phase in the fight against COVID-19, as reported by La Stampa.

Conte stated that the easing of quarantine measures and the beginning of the second phase in the battle against the coronavirus will take effect across the country starting May 4. Citizens will be allowed to travel between individual regions, but they will need to present the purpose of their travel and adhere to all necessary safety measures (such as maintaining social distance and using personal protective equipment).

Movement between regions will only be permitted for work and medical visits. The ban on attending burial ceremonies will also be lifted.
