Tatevik Revazyan Commemorates Her Grandfather Who Survived the Genocide

The President of the Civil Aviation Committee, Tatevik Revazyan, shared a photograph on her Facebook page along with a heartfelt message:

“105 years later, we are here—the descendants of those who survived the Armenian Genocide, still holding the torch and never allowing the memories and demands for justice to fade away. A visit to Van—modern-day Turkey, 2015: Dear grandfather, I hope you have been watching over me from above. Could you ever imagine that your granddaughter would visit your birthplace? Would you have ever thought that your granddaughter’s footprints would be imprinted in the place where most of our family perished, and you somehow survived? I did this, grandfather. As the first member of our family, I did this. And I promise to tell your story.

I know I am here by mere coincidence. You told mom that you hid under your aunt’s traditional dress, and that’s what saved you. A hundred years have passed, and I proudly stand in your birthplace, Van, wearing the traditional attire of Vaspurakan. It’s surreal that a dress like that saved your life and ensured the continuation of our family. I have never felt more alive. I love you, grandfather. Rest in peace.”
