New Patrol Service to Replace Traffic Police, First Launched in Yerevan
According to the 'Jhoghovurd' newspaper, the draft package of the laws on 'Service in the Police' and 'About the Police' is ready. It has been under public discussion on the E-draft information system and has now been finalized. It is noted that the package was prepared by the Ministry of Justice and stems from the action program for 2020-2022.
The strategy foresees that the new patrol service will carry out the functions of the Traffic Police and the Patrol Service, with the process beginning with a special training program for the patrol officers. Those who successfully complete the training will be appointed to their service positions. It is also mentioned that the filling of the patrol service will take place through an open competitive process.
According to the strategy, the 'Patrol Police' service will be operational in the city of Yerevan after the initial staffing and the appointment of leadership personnel, followed by the regions of Shirak and Lori, and eventually across the entire territory of the republic.
At the same time, until the full implementation of the patrol police in other regions of the Republic, the current patrol service personnel and the officers from the 2nd officer company of the 'Traffic Police' will continue their service in accordance with the requirements of the legal acts regulating their work.
With the introduction of the patrol service throughout the republic, the activities of the 'Traffic Police' and patrol services will cease.
