Red Lines... Will Retreat. Armenia's Republic Newspaper
The newspaper 'Armenia's Republic' discussed the reduction of red line markings in Yerevan streets and other proposed changes with Sisak Gabrielyan, a member of the 'My Step' faction in the National Assembly. Among the changes proposed in the new bill, the lawmaker noted: 'The main change is that, following discussions with the city authorities, we have reached the conclusion that at this stage, red lines in Yerevan should only exist in the city center and certain parts of the Arabkir administrative district, while in other districts, effectively, red lines will not be operational after the adoption of the law and a corresponding decision by the council.'
There will also be changes regarding administrative procedures. Previously, everything was documented in photographs, but now parking spaces marked with red lines will be equipped with cameras, and only based on video footage will it be possible to ascertain whether a vehicle has been parked for 15 minutes or not. Naturally, in cases of violations, if the appropriate fee has not been paid, the citizen will see not just a photograph of their car but at least a 15-minute-long video. Another major change is that there is an attempt to regulate the longer-term and somewhat economic activities conducted in relation to the red lines. This means that if a citizen pays 100 drams per hour or 12,000 drams per year to park their vehicle, other rates will apply in this case, though I cannot say what the exact rates will be; this is exclusively a matter for the council to decide. No changes to the rates are anticipated until the implementation of the new transportation system.'
