An Employee of Armavir Penitentiary Attempted to Transfer Drugs to Two Prisoners
On April 20, 2020, around 08:00, employees of the operational department of the Armavir penitentiary, under the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, conducted a personal search based on operational data. They targeted H. Z., a second-grade specialist of the security department at the same penitentiary, and prevented the entry of large quantities of drugs hidden in his shoes and waistband, as well as prohibited mobile phones into the correctional facility.
In particular, 7 packages containing a total of 120.29 grams of substance resembling drugs were discovered in H. Z.’s shoes, including 6 grams of a white, crystalline substance resembling methamphetamine, and three greenish substances weighing 6.1, 44.79, and 49.54 grams that resemble marijuana. Additionally, 70 white, round tablets of unknown origin weighing 6.64 and 6.39 grams, and a brown, ointment-like substance weighing 10.7 grams that resembles hashish oil were found.
An additional 61.39 grams of packages were discovered in H. Z.’s waistband, which contained a greenish substance resembling marijuana weighing 7.88 grams, two factory-packaged transdermal patches labeled “Buprenorphin 10 mg/h” containing the drug Subutex, a brown, powdery substance weighing 3.41 grams resembling an opioid, 148 white, round tablets of unknown origin weighing 22.68 grams, and a yellow and brown blister pack marked “Прегабалин канон” (of the Lyrica type) containing 45 tablets. There were also two mobile phones.
Regarding the findings, H. Z. stated that these items were intended to be transferred to two prisoners in the first section of the penitentiary.
A criminal case has been initiated in the Armavir penitentiary, which will be sent to the Special Investigation Service of Armenia for further investigation.
