How the Incident of Beating Citizens in Sisian Occurred: Acting Police Chief in the Spotlight
The newspaper ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ reports: As is known, an incident occurred in the city of Sisian, Syunik province, between police and citizens. According to the police, as per sources from the ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ newspaper, the citizens did not have the necessary documents required by the decree of the chief of police, which led to their detention for administrative accountability.
However, relatives of those gathered in front of the police station, specifically Hayk Hakobjanian, Arman Babayan, and Viliam Papikian, hurled insults at the police officers. During this confrontation, Senior Lieutenant Karen Jahangirian, who warned them to maintain public order, and Lieutenant Samson Asryan, were met with resistance, subjected to violence, and were insulted with sexual slurs and threats. They were also physically assaulted, with punches thrown at them.
It turns out that Martin Harutyunyan, a member of the Sisian Council, was the one without the appropriate decree from the chief of police, and he too was beaten by the law enforcement officers. Additionally, according to reports, the acting chief of police in Sisian, Garik Muradyan, is at the center of these incidents of beating.
