The Increase in Bread Prices in Vanadzor is Due to Flour Costs
According to a study conducted by the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition in Armenia, it has been revealed that the price of bread in Vanadzor has consistently been lower compared to other regions of the republic. This is also attributed to the presence of approximately 40 businesses in Vanadzor that are engaged in bread production, indicating a competitive market where consistently lower prices have formed.
It is important to note that the study primarily focuses on the type of bread known as 'Matnakash', which has a higher consumption volume among the population. According to information provided by these businesses, the price of Matnakash bread weighing 530-550 grams has increased by about 20 drams, rising from 160 drams to 180 drams (the retail price is between 190-200 drams).
Business operators attribute the rising bread prices mainly to the increased cost of flour and a decrease in consumption volumes due to the state of emergency, as many citizens have opted to bake bread at home during this period. Additionally, the closure of educational institutions has led to a sharp decline in the sale of other baked goods.
We also inform that in the near future, the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition plans to hold a working meeting with bread producers in Vanadzor to assess the raised issues and the validity of the information provided.
