Quarantine Declared in Azerbaijan, State of Emergency Imposed
The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan, chaired by Prime Minister Ali Asadov, has decided to impose a state of emergency to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection. "Taking into account the global experience in combating the coronavirus infection, a special quarantine regime is declared from March 24 to April 20, in accordance with Article 25 of the law," the executive headquarters stated.
Regional issues expert Karen Hovhannisyan has partially presented the restrictions during the special regime quarantine announced in Azerbaijan on his Facebook page:
- Individuals over 65 years old are prohibited from leaving their homes.
- The entry of vehicles into Baku, Sumgayit, and Absheron is restricted (previously registered vehicles were allowed to enter).
- Intercity transport operations are halted.
- Gatherings of people are prohibited, and fines will be imposed for gatherings of more than 10 people.
- Public food establishments will operate from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
- The operations of shopping centers and malls are suspended, except for grocery stores and pharmacies located within them.
- There are no restrictions on the operations of grocery stores, pharmacies, and other shops selling essential goods.
