No Cases of Coronavirus Registered in Armenian Prisons
The Ministry of Justice informs that the anti-epidemic situation in correctional institutions is fully controllable, with no cases of COVID-19 coronavirus disease registered and no patients exhibiting clinical symptoms characteristic of the illness.
According to the information provided to NEWS.am by the Ministry of Health's Public Relations Department, measures aimed at safeguarding the lives and health of persons held in detention are being implemented and continuously enforced by the Ministry of Justice, the Penitentiary Service, and the Penitentiary Medicine Center.
In particular, regular medical examinations, including temperature checks and external inspections, are conducted among incarcerated individuals. Inmates and detainees presenting health complaints are immediately subjected to more in-depth screenings and diagnostic testing.
Periodic awareness-raising activities regarding the symptoms of the new virus and the necessary sanitary and hygienic measures to avoid infection are also conducted among both prisoners and staff of the correctional institutions.
Furthermore, appropriate explanatory work has been carried out, establishing strict control over visits to prisoners and detainees by their relatives.
The Penitentiary Service assures that there are no grounds for panic in the correctional institutions while once again urging the relatives of incarcerated individuals to refrain from visiting correctional facilities, as this is essential for maintaining the life and health of the detainees and prisoners.
