Video: Istanbul Police Disperses Women's March on March 8

The Istanbul police did not allow women to hold a march on İstiklal Avenue in the city center in connection with March 8.

There had been prior notifications on social media about the intention to organize a march for International Women's Day. However, the police prevented women from approaching Taksim Square adjacent to the avenue, citing a decision by the provincial governor’s office that neither the square nor İstiklal Avenue were included in the list of designated areas for such activities, according to ermenihaber.

Following this, police cordoned off entrances to Taksim Square with a large number of officers and barricades, detaining numerous women and taking them to police stations.
