15 Coronavirus Cases Confirmed in Georgia

Georgia has confirmed a total of 15 cases of coronavirus infection. Currently, 140 people are in quarantine in the country. Two new patients tested positive for the virus last night. One of them had contact with infected individuals, while the other had arrived from Spain.

One of the patients, Nikolos Gamkrelidze, is the son of the director of the National Center for Disease Control. He is a doctor himself and manages the Evex clinic. Gamkrelidze wrote on his Facebook page that he had been in contact with a colleague who returned from a trip to Italy and was found to be infected with the coronavirus.

According to Jam-news, this incident is the first in Georgia where the virus has been transmitted within the country. Until now, all infected individuals had returned from trips to Italy or Iran.

An employee of the Evex clinic, who was a carrier of the virus (his name is not yet disclosed), spent several days in Italy and returned to Tbilisi on March 1. The next day, he went to work, where a general meeting was held, attended by Nikolos Gamkrelidze as well.

The following day, the condition of that employee deteriorated, and he tested positive for coronavirus. It was also discovered that five friends he traveled with in Italy were infected with the virus.
