Serzh Sargsyan Meets with EPP President Donald Tusk in Brussels
The working visit of Serzh Sargsyan, the third President of Armenia and leader of the Republican Party of Armenia, to the Kingdom of Belgium has begun. This information is reported on the official Facebook page of the third President of Armenia.
The delegation led by Serzh Sargsyan includes Armen Ashotyan, a member of the Republican Party Supreme Body, Executive Director of the Luys Foundation Davit Harutyunyan, and Republican Party Council member Lilit Beglaryan.
During the visit, a meeting took place in Brussels with Donald Tusk, President of the European People's Party (EPP) and former President of the European Council. "Serzh Sargsyan first thanked the warm welcome extended to his delegation and once again congratulated Donald Tusk on being elected President of the EPP, wishing him success," the statement said.
The two officials emphasized the importance of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed between the EU and Armenia in Brussels back in 2017. "At the request of the EPP President, Serzh Sargsyan presented the recent developments in Armenia’s internal political landscape. They also addressed the effective developing cooperation with the EPP through the Republican Party and future actions. Donald Tusk and Serzh Sargsyan exchanged views on regional issues and challenges," the report noted.
Serzh Sargsyan highlighted the significance of international cooperation for the development of democracy in Armenia and the strengthening of regional stability. "Discussion was also held on the dangers of populism for real democracy. Serzh Sargsyan underscored that any changes must be implemented within the framework of the Constitution and strictly within legal processes, with maximum involvement of relevant specialized bodies and based on expert conclusions," the statement concluded.
