Armenian Trucks Cross Armenian-Georgian Border, To Be Accompanied to Next Customs Checkpoint

“Armenian trucks have successfully crossed the Armenian-Georgian border and will soon be escorted to the next customs checkpoint according to established procedures,” announced Anna Ohanyan, spokesperson for the Minister of Economy, on her Facebook page.

“The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia is in operational contact with the operators carrying out transit to organize cargo transportation without obstacles. It is worth noting that, following a decision by the Georgian government on March 2, changes have been made to the action plans aimed at preventing the potential spread of the new coronavirus in Georgia and reacting swiftly to new coronavirus cases. The changes also include the escort of cargo transport vehicles passing from one border crossing point to another across Georgia from countries with a high risk of coronavirus infection, accompanied by a guide (along with their crew).

Drivers of vehicles that have been in areas recognized by the World Health Organization as high-risk zones are replaced by other individuals who do not belong to the risk group. Complete disinfection of the vehicle is carried out under the supervision of an authorized customs officer, and the driver of the cargo transport vehicle (a foreign citizen) who drove the vehicle while crossing the border is sent back or, depending on their clinical condition, subjected to quarantine or transferred to a medical facility,” the statement added.
