US May Provide Military Support to Turkey Against Syrian Army Operations

On March 4, the US special representative for Syria, James Jeffrey, along with the US Ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft, met with senior Turkish officials in Hatay province, southeastern Turkey, according to ermenihaber.

During the meeting, Jeffrey announced that Washington could provide military support to Turkey in the context of the Turkish military's "Spring Shield" operation in Syria's Idlib province. He specifically stated in an interview with reporters: "Turkey is our NATO ally. The Turkish military largely utilizes American military equipment. We will ensure that the equipment is operational. As a NATO partner, we are providing information and intelligence. Whatever they need in Syria, we will support them."

It should be noted that US officials traveled to Ankara on March 3. Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar hosted James Jeffrey and David Satterfield, the US Ambassador to Turkey.
