Hrayr Tovmasyan vs. Pashinyan: Court Accepts Lawsuit

The court has accepted the lawsuit filed by Hrayr Tovmasyan, President of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. According to Factinfo, the court made the decision to accept the lawsuit on March 3.

Previously, it was reported that the President of the Constitutional Court demands that Pashinyan publicly apologize for offensive statements and deny slanderous information. It is worth recalling that during a press conference on January 25, Pashinyan stated that starting from May 2018, Hrayr Tovmasyan offered his services to him on a daily, weekly, and then monthly basis.

“He offered his services to me, saying that since I am the author of this Constitution text, I can tell you about all the pitfalls, and together we can do who knows what,” Pashinyan emphasized. “In light of these proposals, he was sent to the appropriate place, because I have never had, do not have, and will not have the desire to cooperate with representatives of a corrupt regime. Armenia needs to have a Constitutional Court.”

In response, Tovmasyan gave the Prime Minister 20 days to provide evidence.

“Regarding my tenure, I have never made any proposal to either Pashinyan or any representative of the authorities. I demand that Pashinyan publicly refer to at least one credible fact, one objective piece of evidence, that I have offered my services directly or indirectly, face to face or through intermediaries, to him or any other representative of the government since May 2018 to support me or the Constitutional Court of Armenia in any way,” Tovmasyan stated. “I say and insist on this as a citizen of the Republic of Armenia and as an Armenian man, for whom honor and dignity are above everything, and lies and deception are unacceptable and reprehensible, especially when they come from a high-ranking official.”
From this moment on, I will patiently wait for exactly 20 days for Pashinyan to present any objective fact that substantiates his words. If he fails to do so, I will ask my lawyers to file a defamation lawsuit against Nikol Pashinyan,” Tovmasyan announced.

Today, Pashinyan posted a photo of a pen on social media, presenting it as a sign of the flattery he claimed Tovmasyan showed him. “This is Hrayr Tovmasyan's pen. For a long time, I was contemplating whether to throw it in the trash or not. In the end, I decided to keep it as evidence of the strangest flattery I’ve ever witnessed,” Pashinyan wrote on Facebook, noting that it was transferred to him by Hrayr Tovmasyan during a meeting of the board of trustees of the 'Armenia' All-Armenian Fund in May 2018.

Following Pashinyan's statement, Tovmasyan's lawyer announced that they would prepare a lawsuit for court submission. “The President of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, has read Nikol Pashinyan's 'disproportionate attack' and has asked us to prepare the lawsuit,” attorney Amram Makinyan announced on January 26.
