Father is a National Security Service Official, Son is from the State Revenue Committee: Who is the Drunk Driver Behind the Fatal Accident?

On February 16, a fatal accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 00:40, the driver of a Toyota vehicle with license plate 01PV001 struck two pedestrians crossing the street at an unmarked area in front of the "Ararat" bank on Paronyan Street. One of the victims was found dead on the car's roof, while the other was hospitalized with injuries. However, as reported by the "Erebuni Medical Center," 67-year-old Hayk Elizbaryan passed away the following day.

Some details have emerged regarding both the incident and the identity of the driver who caused the accident. It turns out that the driver is Hamlet Nairi Margaryan, an employee of the State Revenue Committee, holding a senior position in the customs control department at the "Zvartnots" western customs office. His father, Nairi Margaryan, is also a high-ranking official in the National Security Service (NSS).

According to information, a sobriety test revealed that Hamlet Margaryan was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, and he has reportedly been using his official position to intervene in the criminal case. As a result, it has been claimed that he was sober in the official record, despite assertions from individuals involved in the case that the results of the sobriety test were altered.

The news outlet has sought to determine the status of the case from the Investigative Committee, but they have indicated that it has been transferred to the Special Investigative Service. The spokesperson for the SIS confirmed that the case is being handled there but declined to provide further details due to pretrial confidentiality.

It should be noted that the penalty for causing the death of two individuals while under the influence of alcohol is severe.
