VIDEO: Greece to Use Tractors Against Influx of Refugees from Turkey
Greece has officially accused Turkey for the first time of promoting the illegal movement of refugees trying to reach Europe through Greek territory, reports ErmeniHaber.
This statement was made by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis after a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Council. Official Athens also announced that due to a new wave of refugees, the acceptance of asylum applications will be suspended for one month.
It has been revealed that on March 3, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit the Greece-Turkey border with European Council President Charles Michel to assess the situation on the ground. Both officials announced this separately on Twitter.
Mitsotakis also emphasized that refugees attempting to illegally cross Greece’s border should be returned.
It is noted that Greek farmers have started to assist the army and police in blocking the flow of refugees using their tractors and other agricultural machinery.
